£1000 Black Jack Freeroll Winner

05 October 2006 - How SHAGGYDISCO became our first ever £1,000 Freeroll Winner!

With nearly 700 players entered into last night's massive £1,000 Winner-Takes-All GameAccount Blackjack Freeroll and competition was always going to be tight. However, we had to have a winner and so it's many congratulations to Shaggydisco who scooped our biggest ever Freeroll Prize! With over 50 spectators observing from the sidelines, last night's final table was a major public event. After a gruelling 2 hours of tournament play (with a couple of pauses in the flow of the action) the final table popped into existence with players swarming to join and watch the tense final unfold. The finalists were Richard from Golcar in the UK, a.ka. Edge-pp versus Dave from London a.k.a Shaggydisco. As always, both players competed 'heads-up' over 10 rounds of Blackjack with a starting chip stack of $10,000 in virtual casino chips.

The action started to heat up in Round 4. Shaggydisco had taken a $200 chip lead lead over Edge-pp with the players standing at $900 and 700, respectively. Shaggydisco bet a conservative minimum bet of $100 while his opponent countered with a hefty $250 bet, over one third of his chipstack. After the betting, both players drew strong hands with Edge-pp drawing a 20 and Shaggydisco pulling an 18 out of the shoe. The dealer failed to beat the players by hitting to 17 and the paid the table.

Round 5 saw both players placing minimum bets of $100. Shaggydisco drew to a 16 and Edge-pp draws out an 18. Dealer flips a ten card to make 18, claiming Shaggydisco's money and pushing Edge-pp's chips back to him.

Round 6 and the heat is now on Shaggydisco who is trailing his opponents $1200 chip stack with just $900 in chips. Shaggydisco places a hefty $400 pre-deal bet against Edge-pp's $150 and gets dealt a 13 against a 20. A difficult decision for Shaggydisco as he risks busting-out with $400 on the table. He takes it, hitting for an extra card, and catches a 3 from the shoe bringing him to 16 where he sticks, nerves shredded. Edge-pp unsurprisingly holds fast on his 20 letting the dealer flip his cards. Miraculously the dealer busts out by flipping a 16 then drawing a 7 - busting him out at 23. A warm round of congratulations bursts out from the virtual rail where nearly 50 spectators have gathered to lend their support and advice.

Fast forward to Round 8 and the player's are tied in chips and the tension is showing - there's been not a word from either of our finalists. Shaggydisco bets $250 and Edge-pp counters with $200. Both players receive poor hands - Shaggydisco gets a 13 while Edge-pp gets a 14. Shaggydisco hits, to the horror of the spectators, drawing a lucky 3 card from the shoe to tally him to 16 where he stands. Edge-pp declines to draw further and stands on his 14. The dealer flips his cards and busts out on a 26. After paying the table Shaggydisco has a tiny lead with $1,450 in chips versus $1,400.

The penultimate Round 9 sees both players matched with $250 bets on the table. Shaggydisco gets an easy 9 and draws for a 19. Edge-pp gets a lesser 7 and draws another 10 card to stand at 17. The dealer busts out on 22 and the marginal lead for Shaggydisco remains intact.

Round 10 - the decider. Edge-pp is trailing by just $50 chips with his chipstack at $1900 but he has to bet first giving a slight advantage to Shaggydisco who can amend his bet accordingly. The player to move first in the final round is a consequence of the opening high-card draw before play commences. Edge-pp bets all-in with a $500 chip maximum bet. His opponent hesitates, considers a contrarian minimum-bet, but then matches it with $500. Now it's down to the cards. If the dealer beats both player, Shaggydisco retains his lead to win. Edge-pp needs to beat the dealer, and for the dealer to beat Shaggydisco. A tall order. The deal comes down. Shaggydisco catches a great hand with 18 and stands. Edge-pp is not so lucky as receives a 14. The dealer's face-up card is a 9. The dealer has more than a 20% chance of flipping a 10-card to get 19. What does Edge-pp do with his 14? Does he stick, does he hit? He hits. AND BUSTS OUT! It's all over.

Shaggydisco retains his lead and is awarded the £1,000 prize money instantly, to the warm congratulations of the spectators!Next week's tournament promises to be just as epic and you can register your entry RIGHT NOW so enter the Multiplayer Blackjack Lobby and submit your FREE ENTRY today!
